African Black High Fashion Models Photos
Ethnic Runway Models
Some have become black fashion designers and others have started their own television programs, many african american black high fashion models earn a high yearly salary which allows them to have a jet setter lifestyle to new york, london and milan, they set the trend for the latest looks and styles in high fashion.
Most ethnic models are placed under the category of exotic, so if there is not a huge demand for this look, this would be another reason for the lack of black fashion models.
Black Fashion Designers
Many have noticed that the reasoning behind it has more to do with makeup, hair, body type and clothing, than anything else.
The fashion industry are used to working with tall, thin, straight haired models who blend in multiple environments. So they would rather have a plainer look to start with that they can fix up into the creation they want.
My take on it is that when it comes to fashion designers they are creating art on a blank canvass. The fashion designers use a one size fit all type of design with the clothes they make, which does not allow for curves which many black women have plenty of.

Where are all the black fashion models?
Lately news media has been discussing the lack of African American and black fashion models in the fashion industry, with fewer and fewer making the headlines or becoming super models, of ethnic origin.
Italian vogue did a spread featuring black fashion models but it was mostly of the ones that have been in the business for the last 20 or more years, there has been a lack of new black fashion models to hit the catwalk.
Some blame the fashion designers stating that they do not want more than one or two, due to the clients they service.
Some do not use black models at all but prefer to use white models instead.
Supply and demand will dictate this, the fashion industry has a set look they are known for so in order for other categories such as plus size, short models and unique looking ethnic models to make a impact a new fashion industry would have to be created.
Where are the Black women fashion models ?
Looking on the high fashion runway you will see darker skinned models have been in and out of vogue through out the years, many who follow the super models have heard of the ones who have made a name for themselves.

Will Makeup show up on darker skin? What about styling ethnic Hair?
Also I would say makeup is another issue, darker skins can only wear certain makeup as well as ethic hair textures can not stand the repeat damaging hairstyles either.
Some would argue different but I would say its more business than anything else, the fashion industry is a business and it would serve black models well to start their own fashion modeling agencies and fashion clothes line and run their own high fashion runway shows, if they want to make a greater impact.
Niche Opportunity for Black Fashion Designers and Black Fashion Models
I always say there is a silver lining in any situation that may appear to be not favorable at first, the lack of black fashion models leaves open a huge opportunity for entrepreneurs and forward thinkers who can start something that is a niche and something that is needed.
By starting and looking into being a trend setter you may be surprised at how well it will be received by the masses and not to mention how lucrative it can be.
Just look at the successful Ebony Fashion Fair that travels from city to city showcasing some of the best high fashion couture in the business.

Its great, I was so happy to find so many beautiful photos of black high fashion models, it was interesting to find out that a young black model by the name of jourdan dunn is the new face of the runway, she looks alot like naomi cambell.
Great hub! Like to see black models take the stage sometimes too!
It's about time! Finally black models are gaining the runways.
Nice work glad I ran across this.
Gorgeous photos! I always love keeping track of bios and careers paths in the field of fashion. :) Though most people talk about Naomi Campbell and Imam, I'm the hugest fan of Liya Kebede and Alek Wek.

I think black models look fantastic ; I often paint black women ;I think they do fashion a great justice.
Hi Research Analyst,
You have produce an excellent Hub on the role of African-American models in High Fashion or Haute Couture niche of the fashion industry. In 2008 Italian Vogue devoted an entire issue to African-American models ( August 2008). The use of models of color is often based on trends that are prevalent at any particular time. So, it would behoove one to be a " trendsetter" instead of waiting for some entity to
Very nice hub. Naomi Campbell is one my favorites. She is just beautiful. :)
couponalbum, she is one of my favorite models also, I was surprised to see how much jourdan dunn, looks so much like naomi campbell.
Love the photos, and love the Afro on some of the models. LOL.
Hello Research Analyst,
I like this Hub, because it informed me on the judgement, an business end of modelling ....
Most in the Rap Industry have their own clothing line.
Nelly has Apple Bottom. Jay Z has Rocafella. Russell Simons and his ex-wife has Baby Phat, and P. Ditty has Sean Jean.
I know I left some out, but those are the only names I know off the top of my head.
Again, I like this Hub.
I shared this Hub on my FaceBook pages, and with my other followers. Of course I do not have as many followers as you do. LOL.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks N.E. Wright, you brought up a really good point about where the fashion lines have developed mostly in the hip hop industry. It would be interesting to research the actual statistics on how many there actually are.
African Black Fashion Models are very beautiful , These models are very attractive .
This is a really amazing Hub Research Analyst! Your analysis(!) is very thoughtful, and I love the pictures. There really are a lot of beautiful black models out there, and I hope we see more.
I agree tw427 that their definitely should be more in the future.
Is a personality. I like it very much.
PROUD OF AFRICA I LOVE THEM ESPESIALY I HAVE RESPECT FOR LIYA KEBEDE THANK YOU.
This is a great Hub on fashion and models. Naomi Campbell is definitely a great fashion icon!
If you really want to know why Black models are being used less and less, Look out for a book called Internal Vanity that will be released in the summer of 2011. Our "preferences" and standards run deeper than what many may think
I think the whole modeling industry is driven by business men and woman so they influence what is seen on the runway.
