Camping Portable Generators Guide

You can purchase a portable generator for your camping trip online or at Target and Sears. The prices will not vary too much and it all depends on how much Watts of power you will need, the most popular brands include Honda, Yamaha, Honeywell, Honda, Craftsman, Northstar and Champion.

Finding a generator on sale just takes a little shopping around to compare prices, You also want to make sure that it comes with inverter technology because if it does you can run electronics such as computers and televisions. if not you will be able to use it only for bigger appliances such as a Refrigerator or lights.

The best generators so far that have been rated and reviewed include the:

  • Basic portable generator of 3,250 watts called the Generac 5724
  • Small generator for electronics and computers of 2,000 watts called Honeywell HW200i
  • Midsized portable generator of 6,200 watts called the Briggs & Stratton Elite 30242

Electricity powers everything and it is not until we face a blackout or face a power outage in our neighborhoods do we feel the dramatic effect of not being able to use our TV's, Air conditioner, lamps, digital clocks, electric shaver, blender, coffee maker or electric toothbrush.

We depend on the fact that electricity will be available when we need it. For those who like to plan ahead or need a generator to take with them for camping buying a gas powered generator can help you get through a tough situation.

Camping Generator Buying Guide

How it works is that the engine is powered by diesel fuel and the power is turned into electricity, on RV traveling there is not always a electrical hookup near by so you can regain power for a furnace or refrigerator.

You can choose from a home generator that is rated by its power output, because each appliance will have a power requirement, check the wattage calculator to get the exact wattage amount you will need for each appliance.

You will want to determine what you will be using it for as well as the noise of the engine that may be loud if you run it for 6 hours or longer.

You can choose from stationary units, midsized portable units, and smaller units based on power quality, noise levels, ease of use and emergency power

How to choose the right camp heater

Camp heaters will keep your tent warm, even if the size is small, winter nights outside can lead to freezing temperatures below 0 degrees so one must be prepared with a propane heater.

You will have the choice of choosing between a line voltage, battery or electric as well as gas, propane or butane, an electric space heater will be safer to use because if it were to tip over most have automatic shut off.

As well as temperature control settings, ventilation is needed for those who choose to use a fuel based heater inside a tent, the battery powered fan will distribute the heat.

Safety Tips for Tent Heaters

Safety and Operation considerations need to be taken into account when camping or traveling in your RV.

To prevent fire hazards do not leave a heater unattended also it is not a good idea to use the heater to dry wet clothes or for cooking.

Read reviews and DIY guides on choosing the right camp heater by looking at Amazon as well and consumer reports.
