What is Potassium iodide?
It is an inorganic compound with formula KI, white salt is the most commercially significant iodide compound, with approximately 37,000 tons produced, and It is less hygroscopic than sodium iodide, while making it easier to work with aged and impure samples are yellow because of oxidation of the iodide to iodine.
It has been noted that ll IOSAT is fully FDA approved for thyroid blocking in a radiation emergency.
The benefits of how it works is by shielding the thyroid and preventing it from absorbing radioactive iodine during a nuclear emergency, spills, leaks, melt-downs, attack.
The greatest risk from radiation release following a nuclear power plant accident or detonation of a nuclear weapon is from iodine131.
It is important to note that radioactive iodine may be released into the air and then be breathed into the lungs. Invest in a radiation detector to be able to know how much is in your home.
If this occurs the radioactive iodine may also contaminate the local food supply and get into the body through food or through drink.

Non-Radioactive Iodine
The thyroid gland readily absorbs both non-radioactive and radioactive iodine, and normally it retains much of this element in either or both forms.
So when ordinary, non-radioactive iodine is made available in the blood for absorption by the thyroid gland before any radioactive iodine the gland will absorb and retain so much that it becomes saturated with non-radioactive iodine.
As you are probably aware when saturated, the thyroid can absorb only about l% as much additional iodine, including radioactive forms that later may become available in the blood: then it is said to be blocked following a radiological or nuclear event.
Anti Radiation Tablets
It is noted In the years following the 1986 Chernobyl accident, thyroid cancer is the only cancer to have seen a significantly increased and the World Health Organization estimates that a third of the children in parts of Belarus will develop thyroid cancer.
As has been previously discussed when radioactive materials get into the body through breathing, eating, or drinking, its called internal contamination and when it has occurred in the case of internal contamination with radioactive iodine, the thyroid gland quickly absorbs this chemical.
The reason you will want to buy Potassium Iodine online is because the radioactive iodine absorbed by the thyroid can then injure the gland and non-radioactive KI acts to block radioactive iodine from being taken into the thyroid gland, which can help protect this gland from injury.
- Potassium Iodide: How Iodine Pills Protect Against Radiation
Potassium Iodide pills are given to victims of radiation exposure. This form of iodine blocks the radioactive iodine from binding to receptor sites in the thyroid. Chernobyl victims suffered from thyroid cancer, and the danger is elevated with the re - How to Protect Yourself from Radiation Exposure
With the damaged nuclear reactors in Japan there are many valid concerns about radiation and how to protect yourself. First, you must realize that most people in other countries than Japan are probably quite...
Iodine and the Thyroid
However, the thyroid takes only as much iodine as it can use so by consuming iodine-containing tablets for the days following radiation release during which exposure is greatest, the thyroid is saturated and will not take up much of the radioactive iodine.
Remember that there is no medicine that will effectively prevent nuclear radiations from damaging the human body cells that they strike.
However it has been noted that a salt of the elements potassium and iodine, taken orally even in very small quantities 1/2 hour to 1 day before radioactive iodines are swallowed or inhaled, prevents about 99% of the damage to the thyroid gland that otherwise would result.
The iodine is one of the products of uranium fission and the problem is that this isotope of iodine is concentrated by the body in one spot which is the thyroid and it gets a much heavier radiation dose than any other part of the body.

Thanks for the explaination of the way iodine is absorbed by the thyroid gland.
Iodized table salt works in much the same way as potassium iodide in tablet form. It's alot less expensive too!
