Defining Natural Hair Curl Guide

Tips of Best Ways to Define curls on Kinky Hair Types

Defining curls when you have natural hair it is a matter of bringing out your natural curly hair pattern with curl defining mousse that will not dry out the hair but add a bouncy curl definition while moisturizing.

Most hair gels provide frizz control but weigh hair down and if your like me you would rather have a lightweight touchable hold instead.

Do you want to maintain your curl throughout the day, I'm sure you do and so do I but its not that easy from my experience.

When I style my hair with curl defining spray it seems to achieve the look I want while I am indoors but as soon as I go outside the frizz and shrinkage comes back and its so frustrating especially since my hair looks better when the curls are defined and elongated.

To avoid a crunchy feeling from using hair gels add some oil to the mixture. Having the right PH balance in your hair will help in the condition of the curl.

It is recommended to use aloe vera juice along with a good leave-in conditioner such as Kinky Curly Custard.

How to use Kinky Curly Curling Custard on Natural Hair

What you want to look for when choosing hair styling products that promise to give you wavy no frizz hair is the ingredients in the bottle, look for things such as vitamin E, soybean oil, sunflower seed oil, aloe vera is good too.

Natural hair curls are not the same as permed hair curls.

If you notice that a straight curl if there is such a thing has a different elasticity and porousness to it. So

proper curls hair care is necessary to understand your natural curl pattern.

You can try the product on wet or dry hair, it is best to use it on clean hair and then section off each peice while detangling at the same time.

Curl Defining Hair Products

Some hair products will work better than others depending on how you choose to style and wear your natural curls.

When searching online I saw some of these recommendations for curl defining:

  • got2b Kinky Curl Defining Curling Mousse
  • Pantene Hydrating Curls Curl Defining Scrunching Gel
  • Biolage Curl Defining Elixir Curl Enhancer
  • L'Oreal Curl Defining Mousse
  • L'Oreal Kerastase Nutritive Elasto-Curl Weightless Curl Defining Aqua Mousse
  • John Frieda Frizz-Ease Style Dream Curls Perfecting Spray

You can read the many reviews on the products mentioned and you will find a broad spectrum from those who loved the results while others not so much, one of my favorite techniques for defining beautiful curls while my hair is wet is to use Fantasia IC Hair Polisher Styling Gel

I get alcohol free non flaking results when I apply it to my wet hair in sections then I take each section of hair with my Denman hairbrush, it works perfectly creating the stretched out curls I love.

Pat writes - I have naturally curly blonde (with grey) hair. This may sound good, but the curls are never where I want them and sometimes my hair just looks untidy. In my experience the best product to keep my hair under contol is the Frizz-Ease range.

i love that video! i also watched this http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/super-ki

i personally prefer Kinky Curly Curling Custard, but it's the same technique. I've found that using a light natural gel like that keeps my hair from getting tangled. and i never knew WHY hair would get tangled and frizzy so i did some research and found out why http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curly-q-

After years of using hair gels that left my hair stiff, I found solace with a flat iron. I enjoyed wearing my hair in it's natural curls if only it would behave. My enjoyment of swimming and ice skating did not allow me to spend much time on my long hair so I piled on products to make my hair submit to my desired look. In my mid 20's I found that a moderate amount of lotion applied to my mid back length ringlets keeps them from frizzing and looking like they're not well cared for. The lotion doesn't have all the chemicals that are in most hair products and it washes out easily.
