Take Pictures of Special Moments
Since photography is everywhere and it has become a hobbie for some and can be an expensive hobby before the ease of digital photography.
People love photos and since pictures speaks thousands of words it can be really a way to capture the moment before it is lost.
Taking pictures of special moments and special occasions is what makes photograpy a great way to keep track of a time where family comes together to celebrate and laugh.
Moments in ones life is frozen in time and provides a way to share these moments years and years to come.

Ways to get work with your portfolio
Connections and networking is a good way to get gigs, taking photography classes and talking with teachers and fellow students can give leads. One could also join a photography interest group in the community that meets and shares tips and tricks.
Take time to learn from other photographers, how do they shoot the photos and what mood is portrayed. Is there a obvious style. What are the tone, focus, lighting or colors being used. Choosing a background is also something to consider outdoors vs indoors.
Establishing a freelance photography career takes planning and a set direction so as to enter work to as many venues as possible and get paid to do something that one loves.
When building a Portfolio
Showing samples of your work in a portfolio gives clients an idea of what type of photos that one does well. Include paid work as well as hobbies, or contest photos that have been taken over a period of time.

Some great resources here, RA. I wonder if the ease of digital photography has hindered or helped the profession, ie., almost anybody can take their own pictures and publish on the web but has that allowed a tranche of new users into the professon?
great writings
Thanks for listing the resources, and for becoming a fan. :) I'm considering checking into those resources.
Thanks RA- I'm one of those new digital camera guys. Cheap and simple with no film expense and rechargeable batteries. You can shoot to your heart's content. I am a great distance from being where I want to be with editing, video and film but I'm taking the first steps of a toddler. Thanks.
Great hub and some really good resources.
Don't forget real estate photography. That is a growing industry right now.
Photo bank too with real estate.

You provide some good resources for aspiring photographers. Another source is the "Photograper's Market" although I do not know if this publication is available online. It is geared toward the freelance photographer.
