DIY Fro Hawk Mohawk hairstyle haircuts

The fro hawk is a hairstyle that allows a person to wear their hair in a Mohawk style without cutting or buzzing the sides of their hair off.

Most fro hawks uses hair twists on the side, cornrows or just pinning up the sides.

Guy fro hawks are usually different in that the hair is just a shorter length on the sides and the top of the head the hair is much longer but it can be blended together for a more conservative look, sometimes the top of the hair is long enough to cover up the shorter sides when combed down.

Fro hawks for kinky hair is a nice look especially if you wear your hair in a naturally curly hairstyle. Some of the more popular sports figures and fashion models can be found wearing fro hawks in various lengths, textures and colors.

The Mohawk has been a style mostly seen on punk rockers and the like but has transcended to all hair types and genres.

This style is easy enough to do at home, you can also reference photos or videos to see how other women who are natural go about creating the mohawk look without cutting or shaving their heads.

Fohawk Fade

Fohawk, fade for men, is a trendy look that requires the hair to grow long down the center of the head while the sides are cut close but not completely,

this style can be worn at most jobs and does not have the same shock reaction as a regular mohawk which most of the times is completely bald on the sides.

Some fro hawk photos for men and women give some great mohawk inspired looks for those who want to take a chance on this trendy hairstyle.

If you are not ready for a true commitment you may prefer the faux mohawk which basically lets you wear your hair in its original form once you are done with your fro hawk fantasies.

What I like about this hairstyle is that you can go without doing a braid-out for a week and still have a cute look for casual or business wear.

The versatility of natural hair is why many woman have decided to avoid chemicals and go back to their kinky curls.

Creating a Fro Hawk on Natural Hair

The great thing about being natural is that you can take kinky kurly hair and wear it straight, wavy, or in afro puffs. It really depends on the mood that your in.

I have been looking at pictures of natural hairstyles and I noticed a couple of things, the first is that if I wanted to add small cornrows on the sides of my hair and leave the ends out I do not need to shave my head near the temples.

If you remember the original mohawks required you shave both sides of your head. Now you can just use a brush and some pomade and slick the sides down flat and pin the top of the hair up into puffs.

I have seen various versions, some for hair that is straightened with a flat iron and those that have been carefully placed with tightly coiled hair.

To get the look on freshly washed and conditioned hair you will want to part the hair in at least 4 sections. I like to use a bobby pins to section off each piece, then take the tip of the hair and fold it backwards, tuck under and secure with a hair pin.

Repeat for each section until you have achieved that frohawk appearance. You can see in the pictures that the two methods can happen with braids or without.
