How to Make the Best Banana Pudding in Minutes
How to Make the Best Banana Pudding
Growing up one of my favorite desserts my mom made was banana pudding, it always tasted so good and I would love to sneak into the refridgerator and scoop out several spoonfuls to put on my plate.
Have you ever seen banana pudding served in restraunt, only banana cream pie. Some of my friends say that their mom did not make it for them growing up. Now that I am older I make it every once in a while and each time it brings back happy memories.
Now I think the best part of banana pudding is the cookies, yes the vanilla wafers, round circular toasted cookies with a nice crispy taste.
Now if you are not a fan of bananas then you probably will not like this dessert. I happen to love bananas especially when they get really ripe and mushy.
- So for starters you will need to get some really ripe bananas.
- Then you will need to get some banana pudding (homemade or store bought which ever you prefer)
- A big bowl or casserole glass dish
- Some vanilla wafers, generic no name kind will work just as well.
- Cool Whip

Layering is the key to getting the pudding nice and high in the pan.
Start with the wafers, cover the pan at the bottom with the wafers laying them side by side until the whole bottom is covered, then pour in a layer of pudding make sure all the cookies are covered, then slice the bananas so you have all these circular shapes then place them on top of the pudding, the repeat the process again until you are all out of pudding, bananas and wafers.
Then take the dish and put it in the refridgerator, what really makes banana pudding taste good is when the wafers get soft from sitting in the pudding. Leave in the refridgerator long enough for this to happen. Then take it out of the fridge and top it with Cool Whip, whip cream and scoup out and enjoy. Simply the best.

Banana Pudding Dessert
It has been reported that banana pudding is a dessert generally consisting of repeated layers of sweet vanilla custard, cookies as you are aware it usually Vanilla Wafers or ladyfingers and sliced fresh bananas placed in a dish and served, topped with whipped cream or meringue. The best part is that the wafers absorb the custard.
I was surprised to find that it is commonly associated with Southern U.S. cuisine, but it can be found around the country.Such as in the case of it closely resembling an English Trifle in that it is assembled in layers and includes custard, fruit, sponge cake, and whipped cream.
Some tips are that it can be prepared using a baked or refrigerated method, with the latter being the more popular, particularly among home cooks. Moreover, many recipes have been adapting using vanilla pudding instead of a true custard.
Also some other recipes omit the wafers. As in the case of early Banana Pudding recipe was published in The Kentucky Receipt Book, by Mary Harris Frazer, in 1903.
As you may have noticed that even this recipe does not include wafers. So the great ingredient the Banana is the common name for herbaceous plants of the genus Musa and for the fruit they produce.
Also bananas come in a variety of sizes and colors when ripe, including yellow, purple, and red. In popular culture and commerce, banana usually refers to soft, sweet dessert bananas.
As in the case of Musa cultivars with firmer, starchier fruit are called plantains. Many varieties of bananas are perennial. Refer to the Musa article for a list of the varieties of bananas and plantains.
How it works is that they are native to tropical Southeast Asia, and are likely to have been first domesticated in Papua New Guinea.
Today, they are cultivated throughout the tropics so when they are grown in at least 107 countries,it primarily is for their fruit, and to a lesser extent to make fiber and as ornamental plants.
Although fruit of wild species have large, hard seeds, virtually all culinary bananas have only tiny seeds. Bananas are classified either as dessert bananas meaning they are yellow and fully ripe when eaten or as green cooking bananas.
In the rare occasion almost all export bananas are of the dessert types; however, only about ten to fifteen percent of production is for export. Such as in the United States and European Union are the dominant importers
Still one of my favorite dishes to make at home because it is so quick and easy.

My fav fruit. Love anything to do with bananas. Divine.
Just finished up my banana pudding today. It was yummy and so quick and easy to make. I threw a few walnuts on top to give myself that extra dose of Omega-3. Thank you.
Ohh yummie that sounds so good Dottie.
I prefer Vanilla Pudding with the banana's coolwhip and wafers.
It's one of my favorite desserts. Do you have a good peach cobbler recipe you can share?
Oh My, you certainly are passing down some great recipes! I am just wondering, is that a meriunge on the picture of the pudding?? I love it that way too, if I have the time to do it. I would love any other recipes you might have, I really enjoy all of your hubs.
My mother in law told me a way to make this banana pudding that is very rich, same as your pudding but with probably a million extra calories. If you really want to impress someone with this dish- and calories do not matter- you can step it up by using buttercream frosting instead of cool whip. My neighbor lady loved it so much she almost passed out from pleasure,,,I am not making it up either! LOL. It's not that much extra work either.
To replace the cool whip take a small package of banana instant pudding and mix it up with just one cup of cold milk. Let it step up and stir in a half cup of powered sugar, and then fold in cool whip OR 2 cups heavy whipping cream( already whipped). This can now be spread over the bananas, the cookies and the banana cooked puddding.
You can also make this into a banana cream pie. Because this recipe is soooo rich I only make it once a year. Other times, I make it with the lite cool whip instead of heavy whipping cream....its good that way too, and not as bad for you. That little bit of powerdered sugar just makes everything else taste so rich. OH, and I almost forgot, stir in a teaspoon of good vanilla extract into the whipping cream!
You can also use any kind of pudding that you like, lots of people like the white chocolate instand pudding. This is a really good recipe for the beginner cook, because it is easy and people rave about it. I started my neice out with this recipe and she was so encouraged that she loves to cook now, when before she felt she couldn't to anything right in the kitchen.
Move over martha, you have competition now!
magnoliazz - I love it when you share your experiences, I do enjoy reading them, I just made some banana pudding a few weeks ago and it sure went fast, it is one of the favorite deserts at the house, I had bought the vanilla pudding on sale ten for a dollar and the bananas always sell for a good price, added loads of wafer cookies and let it sit and chill in the fridge, its so nice when the cookies get soft and the bananas and pudding are all creamy, only thing is that its really sweet to the taste. Fun to make and yummy to eat.
MMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm!! That banana puddding is all I can think about now! I have 20 pounds to lose, so I have to try to stay away from this kind of thing, however, because it is all I can think about, I may have to break down and make some!
I see you have 175 hubs...WOW...are there some other recipes in there?
magnoliazz - I was looking at my hubs and I actually have written a few on food here they are:

This is not banana pudding, it's banana pie. I want to know how to
make banana pudding. Pudding doesn't have waffers in it,
banana pie does.
Thanks for bringing up the point because it is good to know the difference between banana pudding and banana pie, if anyone has a recipe, please leave a comment, Thanks!
Be healthy by eating banana
Actually Harley I am from the South where we make banana pudding all of the time, and it is even a very common dessert item in restaurants. I can assure you that this definitely is banana pudding NOT pie. The only way to make banana pudding is with Nilla Wafers. If you came down here and tried to serve someone banana pudding without vanilla wafers people would think that you made a mistake and forgot an ingredient.
Hey heather thanks for the comment, the only banana pudding I have ever tasted was with nilla wafers as you mentioned, and it is so good a day later once everything sets and the wafers are nice and soft.
Looks delicious! You made me hungry and it is time to go to bed. Oh no!
how much condensed milk an how much vanilla flavoring??
i love banana pudding but this article on how to make like makes me feels like im dum its just detailed for a dummie so rename it for dummies lol but im gonna try it this way and give some feed back but theres some editing that wasnt done!!!!
I couldn't eat it now after seeing that creame cheese dropped onto the countertop, then put back into the bowl. Eww!
Wow I lyk it....
YES BANANA PUDDING IS THE BEST WHILE I PUT STRAWBARRIES AND WALNUTS IN MINE TO JUICE IT UP. THE BOMB. LOL
wow strawberries in banana pudding is unique.
True Southern banana pudding is cooked custard over bananas and NILLA wafers with MERINGUE topping baked to a lightly brown perfection. Served best warm...but many like it cold.
