Steps to making a water fountain

Here are some of the basic steps of building a water fountain:

First you will want to place the water pump in the bottom of the container, that way you make sure the cord is draped toward the back. Its important to be sure the electric wire is not bent too sharply.

As you may be aware the pump can be in any spot. Use the suction cups that come with most pumps to stick it to the bottom of the container. Now once the pump is in place, put some water into the container and make sure the pump is working.

It is important to add tap water to cover the intake valve then plug the pump into the electrical slot. So if it is found that you are using a pump with a regulator.

You may want to see what the different settings are at before you unplug the pump and adjust the water flow then you can test the pump and regulator in the sink or bucket prior to placing it in the container.

Next when it comes to most common tubing the size range is one half inches in diameter, to five eights of an inch for the outer diameter.

you will need to cut the tubing length to fit your container and design while you fit the clear plastic tubing on the pump spout and get about eight inches of the tubing to elevate the water to the desired height you seek.

Adding Rocks to your Water Fountain

If you choose to use rocks you may want to use larger rocks and stones for filling the bottom and smaller ones for accenting the top.

Next you will want to arrange the rocks and stones to anchor the water pump and to give the water flow a diverse path.

It is possible to fill the container to about an inch from the top of the container with rocks, pebbles and stones.

It is necessary to cover the pump with rocks this way it will make it easier to conserve room in a small container and helps tone down the humming sound.

If you may choose to place larger rocks in the container around the pump first and then fill with other small rocks you can add decoration like little figurines, shells, flowers to add an artistic feel.

Do it yourself and build a water fountain indoors or outdoors

In a garden or on a table top, the choices for making a water fountain feature includes a pump where the water will come through a small pump will work and a bowl or box shape container.

Pick a spot for your rubber tubing that will be attached to the pump to redirect the flow of water.

When it comes to putting it all together, find a place to assemble it you can add plants, rocks so that it looks decorative, it you are deciding to put your water feature inside the house, use a protective material to protect your furniture or if you are placing one in your garden place it in a spot clear of any animals.

Choosing the right container

This first element to a water fountain is to choose the right container, it must be large enough to hold the pump level at the bottom. It also must be wide enough for the tubing to bend and be hidden inside. Most are using rocks to place around the tubing so that it is not noticeable.

Choosing what will go inside the container

If you do decide to use rocks, make sure to pick ones that vary in size and shape, larger ones can be used along with smaller ones, the choice of colors will also give a nice decor to your water fountain as well.

Choosing a location for your indoor water fountain

Your water fountain needs to be in a place if not on a table top but more centered on a wall or in a place near a power source for the water pump to work it will need to be plugged into a wall circuit.
