What that means to you is that many people want to know if a book is worth reading or not. Book critics or reviewers help promote books.

How to write a book review the easy way

Now that you understand what a book review actually is now lets cover how to write one. Keep in mind that a book review is not a book report. A book report merely summarizes the contents of a book while a review provides critical analysis, and to summarize, set in context, describe strengths, and point out weaknesses.

Another great explanation of what a book review is comes from LAVC, they state that: "A book review is a description, critical analysis, and an evaluation on the quality, meaning, and significance of a book, not a retelling. It should focus on the book's purpose, content, and authority.

The rest states: A critical book review is not a book report or a summary. It is a reaction paper in which strengths and weaknesses of the material are analyzed. It should include a statement of what the author has tried to do, evaluates how well (in the opinion of the reviewer) the author has succeeded, and presents evidence to support this evaluation."

speed reading would probably come in handy, focus on the chapter titles, the first and last paragraph in each section and get an idea of what the book is about. The index at the back of the book is always a good place to start too.
