How to Market to Baby Boomers, with creative baby boomer marketing tips

Baby Boomer Marketing is finding ways of reaching baby boomers and providing a useful connection between those who will be retiring and starting a new second life with new careers and starting businesses the person who can help you know what steps to make in your marketing plan is Karla Freeman a licensed clinical social worker,

she has published a book called: Creating Magic in Midlife 101 Questions and Answers to Reinvent Your Work, Relationships and Life.

She knows what marketers need to know if they want to successfully sell their products and services to this group of 78 million people that have 3 trillion dollars worth of disposable income.

Karen states that to really appeal to this market you must first know what the boomers real needs are.

Many of them are in a transitional stage some issues on their mind are retirement, how they will take care of aging parents as well as the new responsibility they face as grand parents. So no matter what industry make sure to focus on serving boomers needs.

Consider the needs of Baby Boomers

Some of those needs to consider are:

  • Community Belonging to a definable group is very important to Boomers. Appeal to the their need to join a group of active people who share similar interests.
  • Contribution Boomers need to feel a sense of contribution to a greater cause, a feeling that their life matters to someone or to a group.
  • Creativity Boomers want to create their own packages to meet their needs, allow them to customize, give them choices and a chance to leave their creative mark on the product or service that they will purchase.
  • Continuity This generation is used to growing and learning, make sure your marketing message show how boomers can learn, grow or better themselves.
  • Connections Use words and phrases that resonate with boomers needs, speak to their language when writing ad copy or advertising your product use words like: Activity, Active, Balance life and work, Camp, Choices, Club, Connection, Contribute, Experienced, Growth, Health, Options, Welbeing, Wise, etc. This way as a marketer you will know your audience and speak their words.

social network for baby boomers

For those who want to connect Eons.com is a social networking site for baby boomers, launched by Monster.com founder Jeff Taylor in July 2006.

Apparently the site provides games, photo and video sharing, groups, how-to lists, interviews, links and information on health, relationships, fitness, debt, retirement and insurance.

Tthe popular site Eons is backed by venture capital financing from General Catalyst Partners, Sequoia Capital, Charles River Ventures, Intel Capital and Humana, Inc.

Online Community for Boomers

According to crunchbase Eons is split into 9 section - People, Fun, Love, Money, Body, Lifepath, Obits, Games and Travel. Also for those who like it has Digg-like news sections, blogs, a social network, obituaries, games, financial advice and more.

Eons Launches Social Network for the Over-50s

Similar sites such as the Baby Boomer Generation is a source for trends, research, comment and discussion of and by people born from 1946 - 1964. Has information that covers issues on the Boomer Generation including original content for Boomers, bulletin boards, user comments.

Sixties and Seventies music, Baby Boomer culture, health and coverage of issues for Aging Hipsters.

One of my favorite sites is AARP, formerly the American Association of Retired Persons, is a United States-based non-governmental organization and interest group, founded by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus in 1958 and based in Washington, D.C.

AARP resource for boomers in U. S.

The reason it is such a good resource is because they are dedicated to enhancing quality of life for all as we age, which provides a wide range of unique benefits, special products, and services for the members.

One of the interesting things about the organization is that it is a non-profit advocate for its members and as one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the United States, and it also sells insurance, investment funds and other financial products.

Also AARP claims over 40 million members, making it one of the largest membership organizations in the United States.
