What are the causes of Memory Loss

Memory loss can be caused by dementia which is a decline in mental functioning in which memory, thinking, judgement and the ability to concentrate are impaired. There has also been cases of a change in personality.

In cases where dementia can develop suddenly is when a severe injury, disease or toxin destroys brain cells, or it can develop slowly with age as in senior citizens, Many people over age of 40 begin to feel that their mental capacities such as reverse memory, cognition, and concentration are slipping.

If you are familiar with the term cognitive function it is the term used to describe your alertness, orientation, memory, attention span, and insight, other causes of mind disfunction may include: Alzheimer's disease and senile dementia which are sources of lack of mental clarity in older persons and are associated with the gradual erosion of the personality.

Never forget again with simple techniques and memory builders, general mind maintenance starts with a positive attitude, believe you can do it, observation notice what is around you, picturing by visualizing, concentration with focus, organizing and reviewing facts you want to remember as well as using word associations.

Each persons case is different and these techniques may not work for everyone so its best to do your research and find out what works for your present situation.

Memory Boosters

The reason for this is that many substances affect the mind, including prescription drugs, like sleeping pills and antidepressants, and chronic alcohol abuse. Nutritional deficiencies should be evaluated, in the case of older people who do not eat a well balanced diet.

It has been stated that some problems with memory are often associated with physical fatigue that causes inattention.

As you may know some women experience memory loss in conjunction with menopause as a result of hormonal imbalances. Usually short-term memory loss is a side effect of too much stress and an overload of information.

Other natural memory loss remedies include Omega-3 fatty acids have shown to help stimulate brain activity, increase memory and even improve mental awareness. Where you can find these natural sources of omega-3 include nuts, seafood, fish and flaxseed.

It has been recommended that Ginkgo Biloba helps circulation and speeds along oxygen to the brain to improve brain fog. I find thinking more in an expansive way instead of lineally has improved my memory; ie: When I need to remember an appointment, I review visually in my mind what the office looks like, what the colors are, the arrangement of things. The person or persons I am visiting. Then back track remembering streets, shop names, etc till I am back at my home. This will practice takes a few seconds. By practicing this I feel that i am also enhancing my life and seeing and appreciating more. Now the memory of things comes as a block, a collague. It is like a dance with beautiful movement.

Memory loss can be partial or total and it is normal when it comes with aging. Sudden memory loss is usually a result of brain trauma and it may be permanent or temporary. When it is caused by medical conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, the memory loss is gradual and tends to be permanent. Otherwise the condition is temporary and only affects memories relating to a portion of one's experience.

Brain trauma is not the only factor that can cause sudden memory loss. It may appear as a side effect of statin drugs that are used as treatment for those who have hypercholesterolemia. Major causes of sudden loss of memory are strokes. Other causes are long lasting and recurrent illnesses such as meningitis or epilepsy.

This is such an awesome hub. Very contemporary and indeed breath- taking. I am so privileged to read this hub because I am duly informed and educated. Hoping to read more of such hubs from you. Cheers!
